5th Panty Schmooze Raises More Than Ever!

The 5th Annual Panty Schmooze - an event created to raise essential donations, money and awareness for local women's shelters in the GTA - was held April 23, 2007 at The Fox & Fiddle-Leaside.

The evening featured live performances by Fefe Dobson, Justin Hines and Terry Kelly with the charming and talented Jully Black as the evening's host.

The "Ultimate Panty Schmoozer" was presented to Martin Heal, Director of Marketing for Tippet Richardson and was accepted on his behalf by Tippet Richardson's Toronto Branch Manager, Anita Fower. Martin and the Tippet Richardson Team have been supporters of the Panty Schmooze each year since the Panty Schmooze's inception in 2002. They have provided their trucks and time each year, delivering donations to the front doors of the supported shelters.

This year's event generated;

•  1,000 pairs of new underwear

•  212 new bras

•  Boxes upon boxes of gently used clothing

•  over $4,000 in cash!

•  30 door prizes totaling over $4,600 in giveaways

All proceeds from the event were divided and graciously donated to three shelters: Nellie's Shelter for Women, Julliette's Place and Anduhyaun.

Thanks to all who have helped make this year's Panty Schmooze a huge success. Your selflessness keeps spirits alive.

Panty Schmoozers honoured by Nellie's

Every year at Nellie's Women's Shelter's annual general meeting, one of the agenda items is to highlight "special friends". At this year's meeting on September 28, 2005 , they recognized the Panty Schmooze. Several of the members of the Panty Schmooze team attended and had a wonderful time.

The event is relatively small, very casual, very community based and brief. It started with native drumming to open the ceremonies. A delicious ethnic buffet dinner was served and enjoyed by all.

There was also a preview of an information video which was produced on Nellie's operations. Keynote Speaker - Akua Benjamin, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee & Human Rights and Anti-Racism Activist, Director of School of Social Work at Ryerson, spoke via video tape on "Ending Violence against Women- Global to Local. Then we were recognised as outstanding donors/volunteers. Each Panty Schmoozer was introduced, thanked and presented with a lovely tee-shirt embossed with Nellie's signature "mural of hope".

It is certainly our pleasure to be involved with Nellie's Shelter for Women and in particular, the Manager of Development at Nellies, Wendy Sung-Aad. Wendy has attended our monthly meetings and provided guidance to the Panty Schmooze team regarding where their efforts can be best directed. Thank you, Wendy .
